FIREWORKS AND FEATURES CLOSE SEASON

AT GRUNDY COUNTY SPEEDWAY

The Labor-day week-end will end the racing season at the Grundy County Speedway, with Fan Appreciation Nite on Friday night and the 32nd Annual Nite Of Features on Sunday evening, with Fireworks by the Mad Bomber lighting up the sky in Morris, Illinois Sunday night.

On Friday night, August 29th, Fan Appreciation Nite tops the evening, with a color TV, a Season pass for the 2009 racing season and many other prizes given throughout the evening.

This final Friday night program will have a full card of racing action, with time trials at 5:45 and the green flag flying at 8 p.m.

On Sunday evening, August 31st, the 32nd annual Nite Of Features will determine the track champions in all four divisions; with a 61 lap Late Model Lee Schuler Memorial topping the night’s racing action.

The Mid-American division will host a 35 lap main event, the Street Stocks running 25 laps in feature racing, and the 4 Cylinders will run a 20 lap feature.

Double Championship Points are up for grabs on this season-ending event, with the track champions determined at the end of the evening’s competition.

Fireworks you can feel, from the Mad Bomber will lite up the Morris sky, signifying the closing of the speedway for the season.

Sunday’s program will also include a 25 lap Legends Feature, along with a 25 lap Illini Midget event.

The Nite Of Features full program begins at 6:30 pm, with time trials at 5pm, with a rain-date of Monday, Labor Day, if needed.

Going into the week-ends finale, Tom Smith holds a 48 point lead over Brett Sontag in the high-powered late model division.  Smith is the defending track champion, with Sontag being a past title holder.

Brothers Tom and Billy Knippenberg Jr. are separated by just 13 marks for the third spot in points.

The Mid-American division title is between three drivers, with Seneca’s Jeff Olson currently on top.  Twenty-seven points back is Eric Pierce, from Lake in the Hills, with last year’s street stock champion, Chad Proctor just forty points back of Olson.

Sixty-Eight points separate Chad Bayuk from Rick Dawson for the Street Stock title, with Bayuk trying to claim his first championship.  The third place battle is between six drivers, all separated by just forty-three points with two race events remaining.

Three drivers are vying for the 4 Cylinder championship, with Kyle Lindemuth, from Morris, holding a mere nine point advantage over Gardner’s Eric Boudreau.  Jim Beasley sits 26 marks from the title in the third position.

Racing begins at 8pm on Friday night, and a special 6:30 starting time is slated for the Nite Of Features on Sunday evening.

Children 11 and under are always free, and free parking, at your Friday Nite Race Place, the Grundy County Speedway, located just north of I-80, on Rt 47, at the Fairgrounds in Morris, Illinois.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 31ST, NIGHT OF FEATURES TO CLOSE THE SEASON. 

Fan Appreciation Night will be held this coming Friday night, August 29th, our last Friday night of 2008, with a color TV and a 2009 season pass are only a few of the prizes given out during the evening to the fans, along with free pop corn to all kids eleven and under. 

Two days later, on Sunday, August 31st, the 32nd Annual Night Of Features will take place, with six big feature events on tap for this season-ending event.

Topping the card will be the 61 lap Lee Schuler Memorial feature for the high-powered late model division.

The Mid-Am division will run a 35 lap feature, followed by a 25 lap Street Stock main.

The Illini Midgets will run a 25 lap feature as will the Legends cars, and the 4 Cylinder cars will go for a 20 lap feature event, along with a vintage Race Car Exhibition feature.

The Mad Bomber will be at the speedway for a big Fireworks display, lighting up the skies to signify the end of the Friday night racing season at Grundy County Speedway.

A special earlier starting time of 6:30 is slated for the Sunday night program, with time trials getting under way at 5pm.

Double Championship points will be awarded all drivers and the 2008 champions will be determined.
